Found at Dublin Port a Russian mortar launcher destined NI
10 December 2020
Police believe the mortar launcher which triggered a security alert at Dublin Port, was intended for a private collector living in Northern Ireland.
Gardai (Irish Police) attended the incident at approximately 01:00 local time.
ATO declared this weapon, a Russian-made 82mm KRH36Y mortar rocket launcher, safe.
It was being transported by a van.
A spokesman for the gardai said that at this point, they were satisfied that there wasn't any criminal intent in its importation.
Revenue and Customs officers performing routine profiling on incoming port traffic discovered the launcher.
They stopped an Eastern European-registered van and the weapon was spotted.
